JourneyCheck Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 24, 2026

atelier-flare ("we") respects your privacy in your use of the iOS app JourneyCheck ("the App") and handles information in accordance with the following policy.

The App does not collect or transmit any personal information, including your location. All records are stored only on your device and in your own iCloud account. We have no way to receive your records and cannot view them. You remain in full control of keeping and deleting your data (Section 8).

1. Information Stored

The App does not require you to create an account or sign in. It stores the following information on your device:

This information is stored in a database on your device and is never sent to any server, including ours.

2. Use of Location

The App uses your location to record your movement tracks and stays automatically. To keep recording while the App is in the background, it requests "Always" location access. Location data is used solely to build your own activity record and is never transmitted to us or to any third party. You can pause recording at any time from within the App.

3. Use of Motion Data

The App uses motion sensor data (Core Motion activity and pedometer data) to estimate how you travelled and to obtain step counts. All processing happens on your device and nothing is transmitted.

4. Use of the Photo Library

The App reads your photo library (read-only) to show the photos you took that day next to the places you stayed. It does not copy your photos into the App or transmit them anywhere.

5. Communication with Apple Services

To display maps (map tiles) and to resolve place names (reverse geocoding and nearby place search), the App communicates with Apple's MapKit and Core Location services. This communication is handled under Apple's privacy policy, and we have no access to its contents.

6. Sync via iCloud (CloudKit)

If you are signed in to iCloud and have enabled sync, your records are synced and backed up to your own iCloud account through Apple's CloudKit private database. Because it is a private database, no third party — including us — can access this data. Sync can be turned off in Settings.

7. Tracking and Advertising

The App does not use any App Tracking mechanism. It contains no analytics SDKs and no advertising.

8. Managing and Deleting Your Data

Your records are held only by you, so there is no need to ask us to delete anything. You can delete your data yourself at any time:

Because the App is designed to keep a complete record of your days, it does not provide a bulk "delete everything" button. To stop recording, turn off "Automatic recording" in Settings; nothing is recorded while it is off.

9. Notifications and Widgets

If you enable it in Settings, the App uses local notifications to let you know when automatic recording has remained stopped. Notifications are scheduled on your device only; no push-notification server or any other external service is involved.

To display Home Screen widgets, the App saves a summary of the current day (recording state, distance, number of stays, step count, a simplified track and a map image) to a shared area on your device (App Group) that only the App and its widgets can read. This data stays on your device and is not included in iCloud sync.
